We always looked forward to the days she was working; her smile and positive attitude would make our days brighter.
Our twin girls were born micro-preemies, and we knew we had a long NICU journey ahead of us. It’s scary and overwhelming seeing your babies hooked up to monitors, alarms going off, and hearing all the details from the doctor and care team. In the very beginning, Jenna came to us and told us how she was there when they were born, how she’d love to be our primary nurse, and that she’d advocate for them. When the doctors would tell us things, she’d come to us after and make sure we understood and answered any questions we had.
When one of our girls ended up getting transferred to Madison, it was really hard, but we knew her sister was in good hands and that was really comforting. It’s hard leaving your baby behind at the hospital but knowing Jenna had their best interests and truly cared for them helped. We always looked forward to the days she was working; her smile and positive attitude would make our days brighter. She shared things with us about her personal life, too, and we felt like we had a friend during the days we were sitting at the hospital. She would stop on days she wasn’t working but had meetings just to check-in.
When we were discharged, she stayed late and took the time to sit down with us and go over everything, making sure we had everything we needed and more, as one of our girls still had a lot of medical care going forward. As much as we wanted our girls’ home, it was still bittersweet leaving because of the environment in the NICU, and we knew we’d miss Jenna. During the hardest time of our lives, Jenna gave us comfort and made us feel reassured, she took care of us along with our girls.
