She was on top of my daughter's clinical care and did everything to make us feel comfortable and reassured.
The inpatient stay we had was, hands down, the most frustrating, stressful, and scariest time of our lives. Kelly Tiscia really made us feel at ease. I often hear family and friends describe a “good nurse” by the clinical skills they possess. I know that in addition to those competencies- it’s the way you make your patients feel. From the second we met Kelly, we felt like we knew her forever- like a childhood best friend. She had this warmth about her that made us trust her instantly. Her interactions were never rushed, and our questions were always answered. She made us feel safe. The days felt like weeks, and the time passed so slowly. Although the entire visit was a blur, there is one moment that I can vividly remember that reminds me of the exceptional nurse Kelly is. At that moment, I was overwhelmed by the slow clinical improvement my daughter was having. As I stood back, I observed her do little dances and play peek a boo with my daughter in her crib to try to make her laugh and I remember it making me teary eyed as she engaged with my daughter as not only a patient but a human/child. During all our interactions, Kelly made our days a little brighter. Whether it was talking in baby talk to our daughter or bringing us toys from the toy room unprompted to try to break the stir craziness. She was on top of my daughter's clinical care and did everything to make us feel comfortable and reassured. We never felt like a bother. One day when she returned from not seeing us, she greeted us by telling us she had been thinking about us when she was home with her family. It meant the world to us to know she cared about our daughter and that she wasn’t just doing her “job”. I could go on and on with examples, but the way she made my family feel during such a vulnerable time can never fully be captured in words, and for that, we’ll always be thankful for her!
