Stephanie takes care of her patients the same way she takes care of her co-workers, ALWAYS putting them first.
The nomination for this nurse to receive the DAISY award comes with a lot of appreciation for her as a person and although she takes wonderful care of her patients, the way she took care of her peers deserves to be recognized as well. On Christmas Eve a nurse was working with her and received devastating family news that led to her and her family having to spend the next few days in a hotel. This nurse had several kids and it was a tragedy on Christmas Eve to move them into a hotel and have no Christmas Tree, no decorations, no presents---nothing. The nurse was in tears wondering how she was going to make it through the next few days. Stephanie Robertson worked with the house supervisor on her shift to allow her enough time to leave early and be with her children to get settled into the hotel. When this nurse got to her car to leave there was a Christmas tree with all the trimmings, a poinsettia plant, garland with lights, everything to decorate a hotel room so that her children would have a "Christmas". This meant more than anyone could imagine for the nurse and Stephanie’s kindness will never be forgotten. Stephanie takes care of her patients the same way she takes care of her co-workers, ALWAYS putting them first. She always lends an ear for her patients to express their feelings, attends to their needs, and even in the most difficult circumstances keeps her composure. We have patients call back to the unit all the time just to check in on "Steph" and want just to "hear her voice" and say "hi". She does a wonderful job as a Clinical Nurse Coordinator and advocates for her co-workers and patients alike. She deserves to win the DAISY award because of all the above and a hundred other reasons.
Stephanie was also nominated by two patients who noted the following:
1. Stephanie has been a wonderful nurse and gives 110% to her job. She loves her patients and has given her heart to listening to them and fulfilling as much as she can to their care and treatment program. No matter how busy she is she helps her patients with anything she can.
2, Being in a behavioral health unit during the holidays presents unique challenges to patients. We feel homesick and separated from loved ones and it can be hard to get into the holiday spirit. However, Stephanie, with the help of her entire team, brought the holiday cheer to work during the week of Christmas. Not only did they provide a wide variety of therapeutic and holiday-themed activities, they treated all the patients like friends and family. Each with their unique personalities, humor, and excellent skills, we were so blessed to have their care leading up to Christmas.
