Her exceptional character of care, kindness, and professionalism the moment she attended to me in my most trying moment, has made a profound impact on my experience at the center. Madam Evelyn's dedication to her work is evident in the way she attended to me in my most trying time.
Evelyn was the first formally trained oncology nurse Specialist at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, in the Northern Region of Ghana. She is an outstanding and incredible asset to the hospital and the region as a whole.

Her passion for bringing relief to persons with breast cancer earned her a fund to put up an oncology center at the Tamale Teaching Hospital which is currently serving as the only oncology referral center for the five Northern Regions of Ghana.

Not only has she helped change a myth most women have held about Breast Cancer, for which reason many of them did not seek hospital treatment, but through her awareness creation, educational activities, and financial support, a lot of women have sought breast examination, and have had access to surgical interventions for their breast cancer.

As part of her duties, she organizes a team of doctors and nurses to engage in a massive breast cancer awareness campaign, counseling, early detection, diagnosis, chemotherapy, monitoring, and management of side effects of chemotherapy for persons living with cancer within the northern region.

Her efforts have helped to create a massive awareness among many women within the Northern Region in identifying lumps in the breast and early detection of breast cancer cases.

One lady had this to say. “I got to examine my breast to detect a lump after I had listened to Madam Evelyn on a radio show ,and I immediately walked into the compassionate presence of Madam Evelyn at the Tamale Hospital’s Oncology Center with a lot of hope. She took extra interest in me since my first day of admission to undergo a day operation. She took her time to explain the procedure, allayed any fears, and educated me on any other therapy and this made me discard any fears I have held all along about breast cancer and its surgical procedure.

She took me through a thorough education in chemotherapy, and I began successfully.

After my surgery and my discharge, I continued to reach out to her freely anytime I wanted to seek advice or further care
In fact, she helped mobilise funds for my operation and medications. I can say that I owe my joy, my life and my health to Madam Evelyn.

She is the “Mother of Cancer” cases in Tamale and the Northern part of Ghana. Her presence in the Tamale metropolis has helped erase a lot of myths and fears among most people, particularly women, regarding breast cancer.

Another woman also wrote this about her: “I can attest to the fact that Madam Evelyn carries out her functions and roles with compassion and empathy."

I respectfully write to wholeheartedly nominate Madam Evelyn, a dedicated and compassionate staff at the Tamale Oncology Center, for any award for nurses.

I walked into the Oncology Center of Tamale Hospital with a lot of apprehensions, but immediately, I encountered Madam Evelyn. I relaxed, and my fears were erased quickly. She attended to me as though she had known me as a relative for a long while. Meanwhile, it was my first time meeting her. Her concern for detail when it comes to carrying out examinations and how she explained complex medical information in a clear and concise manner has been invaluable to me and many other patients. Her style of offering health education and information was what made me so relaxed when I realized I had developed a lump in my breast.

Her exceptional character of care, kindness, and professionalism the moment she attended to me in my most trying moment, has made a profound impact on my experience at the center. Madam Evelyn's dedication to her work is evident in the way she attended to me in my most trying time.

For me, what sets Madam Evelyn apart is her genuine interest in the well-being of every patient she attends to.

During my first and subsequent meetings with her, she encouraged me to express my fears, feelings, concerns, and views freely while she listened to me actively and openly went ahead to offer words of encouragement, and provided me with emotional support.

I firmly believe that Madam Evelyn's outstanding service, compassion, and commitment to excellence make her an ideal candidate for any professional recognition since it will be a well-deserved honor and a testament to the exceptional care provided by the Oncology Center in Tamale.

I am a young lady of 22 years, and as a result of the impact Madam Evelyn has had on my life, I believe the only means of me saying “Thank You” to her is to nominate her for any award and recognition due nurses in Ghana and internationally.
