Dominique Dufour is the nurse we all aspire to be. She is a dedicated, hardworking, conscientious nurse who puts patients' safety and care first and does so with a bright positive attitude. She makes our work environment a better place with her fun nature, dance routines, and funny comments. We are so grateful that she is a part of our team.
The best part of Dominique is her bright, positive attitude and willingness to go beyond what is asked of her. She is an intelligent nurse who picks up new skills easily and master's them quickly. Due to a shortage of surgical techs, we have had to revamp our model and have asked the RNs to step up and learn to scrub. Dominique was eager to be one of the first RNs to learn to scrub and is now a preceptor for our other nurses. She has been an essential team member as she can offer breaks and fill in for RNs and scrub techs. She is truly a model of excellence, and we could not be prouder of her.
When she is with a patient, her focus is on doing what is best for them. Her room is always well prepared before the patient enters the room. She welcomes the patient with her pleasant commentary, putting the patient quickly at ease. When positioning the patient, she is conscientious of their skin and pressure points, ensuring they are well padded and cared for to prevent skin breakdown or injuries. Upon transferring the patient to PACU, Dominique goes the extra mile to ensure the patient and the patient's bed are clean and comfortable.
When Dominique does not have a room assignment, she is always busy helping her coworkers by getting the case carts ready for the next day, assisting in getting the rooms ready for the next case, and stocking them. During downtime, Dominique is always finding ways to boost morale and help build positive team relationships. She is loved by all the staff and surgeons alike.
Recently, there was a code called in the OR during off hours, and Dominique was able to initiate the code blue and quickly utilize the resources she had to assist with the code. After the event, Dominique is helping to organize and develop a better system and training for the OR team so that we can be more efficient during a code. She wants to ensure that the new nurses who come to the OR will be well-trained in case of an emergency.
