We came in for an induction and were assigned our nurse, Bridget. Even though this was our 4th baby and 3rd induction, I was a little nervous this time. During our last induction, I had low blood pressure issues and ended up with an epidural that wore off. I had also experienced an induction where our baby was stuck in my pelvis and needed some special maneuvering to move. Bridget listened to my concerns and took them very seriously. Throughout our entire labor process, I could see her doing things to prevent these previous issues. Everything from helping me labor in different positions to increasing my fluids, to ultimately coaching and encouraging me through natural labor. She truly understood my goals for delivery and worked with me the whole time to make sure I got the experience I was hoping for (even to the point of speaking up for me and my ability to labor well to extended family members!). I was hoping to go as long as I could without an epidural. She was extremely encouraging, offering lots of advice on how to labor naturally and praise for the work I was doing. I surprised even myself with how long I was able to go with her help. She made me feel like a rockstar and continually told me that I was doing amazing which helped me have more confidence as things got harder. Even when my water broke and I started progressing faster than anticipated, she stayed calm and confidently coached my husband and I through each contraction. There were many contractions where I focused on her voice to bring me through. Bridget ultimately ended up delivering our daughter since she came so fast. It felt very fitting that she should be the one to deliver our baby since she played such a crucial role in our safe and positive labor experience. It was only right that she be the one at our side when our daughter was born. I am so very grateful Bridget was assigned to us that day. I am not sure I would have been able to have such a positive birth without her support.
