All of her education is designed with the idea of leveling up the knowledge of nurses and truly making HCA the destination of healthcare excellence.
Emily is the type of educator who consistently goes above and beyond what is required of her. She thinks not only of how she can improve patient life in terms of those she is providing education to, but ultimately of the lives that those nurses and clinicians may go on to impact. All of her education is designed with the idea of leveling up the knowledge of nurses and truly making HCA the destination of healthcare excellence.
One particular situation where I believe Emily really excelled followed a very difficult case- a maternal death. Emily provided emotional support to all of the nursing staff involved, offered EAP resources, and routinely checked in with the nurses. In addition, she reviewed the case with the quality team and realized there were education opportunities, and created an amazing learning event from it which is currently part of OB Critical Care 3. This required collaboration with many individuals and departments, including physicians. However, since Emily's focus was on improving outcomes, she gladly collaborated to do so. When she teaches this topic currently, VTE and PE, she is able to assist nurses in bridging things they already know into more difficult and complex topics. This empowers nurses to take the best care of their patients, using the most recent and best available evidence. Emily continually looks for ways to innovate, and has made several escape rooms, including one on DKA, which was able to demonstrate a significant knowledge improvement.
In addition to being a master's prepared nurse, Emily holds several advanced certifications and always works to learn more herself so that she can pass on any knowledge to those who benefit from her mentorship and education. Emily served as a super user this year for ongoing competencies, has trained new educators, and is about to be a national poster presenter for the second time! I personally love working with her, and I know that she deserves to be honored as a DAISY Nurse Educator.
