She understood my fears, my doubts, and the feelings and struggles I was going through.
I was having struggles, and I think Bernice Sanchez sensed it and was kind enough to pause what she was doing, and we started to talk, and she opened up to my wife and me. She shared her personal story with us, which really shocked us because had she not done this, we never would have known what she had gone through in her personal life with her own health issues. It turned out we shared a journey in a sense, because what I am going through today, she has already been through. She understood my fears, my doubts, and the feelings and struggles I was going through. My wife and I did not expect this open book experience from her. She shared hers, the treatments, the time it took for things to begin healing. It was everything I needed to hear as she was there to share and let me hear it. I have always considered nurses and doctors to be "ministers" in a sense, in that they can share things and, without knowing it, they can minister to you without even realizing it. That's what she did for us on that particular day. By sharing her story, she ministered to our hearts and calmed my fears down for sure. There was a breathing treatment waiting for the next day that I was not ready for. And the event that she shared about. Her experience and turnaround from it all. The experience, for me, honestly was terrible, but at best, because of the giving of her time and sharing her experiences, it gave me something to prepare for. She was amazing in so many ways. Her detail in administering the meds, prepping me for scheduled procedures, and such was a big plus for me. It became a trust issue. I felt I could trust her, and she was very open with me. I will forever appreciate that for life. Her professionalism was always over the top. Her kindness was always without measure. Her heart was always in everything she did. As busy as this floor always is, the RNs always have time to make you feel special. Like you are important and you matter for that specific moment. I am forever grateful to her. Her dedication, her heart, and her professionalism are noted and never forgotten.
