I am excited to nominate Debra for a DAISY Award due to her outstanding contributions to nursing excellence. Since joining our team, she has set the highest standards for patient care and has significantly impacted the professional growth of her colleagues.
Dedication to Excellence in Wound Care:
Her commitment to improving patient outcomes is extraordinary. Since the reinitiation of Wound Care Rounds in October 2022, she has been a driving force in enhancing collaboration between wound care specialists and nursing units. Her leadership during these rounds has been essential in reducing pressure injuries and improving strategies for skin integrity prevention at SAH. She works diligently alongside clinical teams, ensuring that each patient at risk for skin impairment receives specialized care. Whether reviewing patient histories, discussing prevention strategies, or assisting with direct care, she approaches her work with focus and genuine investment in her patients' well-being.
Her hands-on approach is evident in her thorough assessments of each patient’s skin condition, prioritizing those at the highest risk based on their Braden scores. She ensures that patients are positioned correctly, their beds are clean, and any skin integrity issues are addressed immediately, all while maintaining their dignity and comfort. Her attention to detail and commitment to excellent care have led to measurable reductions in pressure injuries as well as improved patient outcomes through effective resource allocation.
Passion for Education and Professional Developmen:
Her passion for education is a cornerstone of her leadership style. She empowers others to deliver exceptional care. In 2023, she played a vital role in a Workout session aimed at improving communication and collaboration between nursing teams and wound care specialists. This effort resulted in a detailed flow chart, the implementation of new policies, and updates to Cerner documentation, all of which enhanced workflows and improved care for patients at risk for wound issues. She is also a dedicated educator within the institution, offering a comprehensive Pressure Injury Class that has received outstanding feedback for its content and practical application. Her teaching style inspires without overwhelming, earning her immense respect from colleagues. The knowledge she imparts fosters a culture of clinical excellence and continuous improvement, prompting suggestions from team members to make her class mandatory due to its value to the organization.
