Harley tirelessly sought resources and assistance to facilitate the family’s journey, coordinating with hospital staff to provide the support the family needed.
I am writing to nominate Harley Paulk from the Emergency Department for a DAISY Award, recognizing her exceptional compassion, clinical expertise, and unwavering dedication to providing extraordinary care to our patients, particularly during high-stress situations.
Recently, Harley cared for a pediatric patient who arrived in the ED in critical condition. Despite the chaotic environment that surrounds pediatric emergencies, Harley immediately established a calm and reassuring presence. She explained procedures clearly and patiently addressed the parents’ anxieties. The parents were concerned about the patient being transferred and transported via helicopter without their presence. Harley isn’t only an ER Nurse, but she’s also employed with the helicopter EMS Service, giving her greater knowledge of the operations and procedures on the transport side. She took time to explain and answer any questions. By doing this, she alleviated some of the concerns and developed a more trusting rapport with the hospital staff and transport team before their arrival.
Harley is much like many in the Emergency Department and thrives on action and adrenaline. She recognized the need of the patient and family at the time. Her actions directly contributed to a positive outcome for the patient, demonstrating exceptional communications skills and genuine empathy.
Another employee added that Harley tirelessly sought resources and assistance to facilitate the family’s journey, coordinating with hospital staff to provide the support the family needed. In an incredibly touching gesture of empathy and generosity, she personally paid for the family’s transportation to the other facility, ensuring that they could be together during this difficult time.
Harley always goes the extra mile by anticipating needs, advocating for quality care, and supporting and being a resource for colleagues during challenging times. In addition to her clinical skills, her positive attitude and infectious laugh make her a true asset to our Emergency Department.
Harley’s coworkers are inspired by her commitment to making a difference in the lives of others, and I believe she is a true DAISY Nurse for her extraordinary exceptional service and the compassionate care she demonstrates.
