In Danville, we have a patient population riddled with concerning comorbidities and pregnancy complications. Gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, and chronic hypertension are among the most common concerns. For patients diagnosed with these conditions, we ask that they take their blood pressure at home and report readings to our office on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis. In the past, we have been able to send a prescription for a blood pressure cuff to Carle Medical Supply where our patients are able to pick up a cuff covered by their insurance, free of charge to them. Unfortunately, the vendor that Carle Medical Supply in Danville is now using does not carry blood pressure cuffs. We have attempted to send our prescriptions to other pharmacies such as CVS, Meijer, Walgreens, etc. We have found that these pharmacies are not able to dispense blood pressure cuffs to our patients. The only way our patients can get the blood pressure cuff is to purchase it over the counter. This is not an option for much of our population. Katie has taken it upon herself to seek out funding from external sources to purchase and provide BP cuffs to our patients, free of charge. She has secured 22 BP cuffs so far and is well on her way to more! It’s inspiring to see her go so above and beyond her expected duties for the good of our patients.
