My wife and I had the privilege of meeting Arlene during one of the most important and challenging moments of our lives: our time in labor and delivery. From the moment we first encountered her in the hallway, before she had even officially started her shift with us, she greeted us with warmth and familiarity. It was clear that she had already taken the time to prepare and learn about our situation, making us feel valued and cared for right from the start.

Throughout the night, Arlene demonstrated unwavering compassion and empathy. She wasn’t just responding to our needs—she was anticipating them. Whether it was adjusting my wife’s position after the epidural, ensuring she was comfortable, or simply making sure she had water and meals without us needing to ask, Arlene made us feel completely supported. 

Her communication was another aspect that stood out. She took the time to explain every procedure and action in a way that was clear and reassuring. In a situation that can often feel overwhelming, her thoughtful explanations helped us feel calm and confident.

And what truly amazed us was her dedication. Her shift was supposed to end at 7 a.m., yet she stayed until 11 a.m., continuing to check on my wife, ensuring she was comfortable, and even cleaning her catheter bag. Before leaving, she carefully handed everything over to the next nurse, demonstrating her professionalism and deep commitment to her patients.

Arlene, your kindness, attentiveness, and extraordinary dedication embody everything that the DAISY Award represents. You are a shining example of excellence in nursing, and we are forever grateful for the care and comfort you provided during such a significant moment in our lives.
