She never judged me, just listened and said everything I was feeling was okay and to let it out.
I came into the ER with bad stomach pain as Emily was coming onto her shift. I thought I had a stomach virus, but it turned out to be a potential ectopic pregnancy. I had no idea I was pregnant or what an ectopic pregnancy was. I cannot begin to describe the support Emily provided to me throughout the day. It was a physical and emotional rollercoaster. I was in pain, shocked, and scared. I already have kids at home, and truthfully, I was unhappy/terrified at the thought of having another. She never judged me, just listened and said everything I was feeling was okay and to let it out.

The ER was so busy, and Emily’s phone was ringing every time she came into my room because her other patients needed things. I never felt like she was in a rush; she made me feel like I was the only patient there. She took the extra time to provide emotional support to me and held my hand when I cried, came in to check on me every chance she got, even if it was just to poke her head in. She offered to call my boyfriend and family for me to explain what was going on because I just felt like I couldn’t. She brought me a ponytail holder from her locker and put my hair up for me because I was throwing up, and she helped me clean up without batting an eye. Emily advocated for me to make sure I wouldn’t be put in any unnecessary discomfort during my tests, and I have never experienced that before.

While she did her job and made sure I got pain medicine and other things, the care I got was special. I knew she wouldn’t let anything bad happen to me and would handle anything that came up.

My friend picked me up, and Emily answered all of her questions so she knew how to help me, and she walked me outside.

I pray that if I ever find myself in the emergency room again, Emily will be there. You are lucky to have her.
