My wife was admitted to a satellite ED at 23:45 on Sunday night and held with no updates for 15+ hours. After finally getting transferred to Mayo Obs unit, we were greeted by Sapna as our RN on shift. Upon admission to 1 West Obs, she was immediately attentive and very open with communication. She was clear with expectation management and helped coordinate all the different specialties. With the uncertainty of the diagnosis and as a T1D patient with Celiac, she was extremely helpful in ensuring food options were available and offered assistance for ordering. The most impactful part was helping us (patient and spouse) understand the course of action, plan, and timeline. She ensured that everything was well-documented and followed up with questions to ensure that all necessary details were logged. Sapna went above and beyond in comparison to every other nurse we have seen in the last 10 days. She showed compassion, patience, and again, communicated openly, which was extremely appreciated. As the spouse of a nurse (and in this case, patient) it had been increasingly frustrating trying to find out what had been done, what was next, and what the plan was prior to arriving at Mayo. Once Sapna was assigned, at no point did we ever wonder about any aspect of the process.
