Hello and Happy Thanksgiving, I wanted to share my gratitude, especially today. I apologize if this email address is not for this purpose, but I wanted to reach out with my appreciation. I was on 4th floor East at Union Memorial for two days and interacted with a number of folks who positively impacted my experience and deserve high praise (it should be noted everyone was great... many folks I didn't get their names and/or I may just not have made a note on my phone about them; also these appear in no particular order). I apologize for not knowing anyone's last name, but I am hoping they can be identified by seeing who was working on corresponding dates:
1) Ashley - Charge Nurse who also was my nighttime nurse for 2 nights -- Such a genuine person, Ashley was a great listener, very caring, and sweet. She truly made me feel good each time she came into my room and always made me smile!
2) Sydney - daytime nurse for 2 days -- A very positive presence, who I truly appreciated. Sydney was very sweet, caring, and genuine. She looked out for me and was always encouraging!
3) Ashley -- Physician's Assistant 2 days -- Talk about a person who made me feel confident in the care I was receiving in the absence of my Doctor (though Dr. Meininger did stop by to check on me once) -- Ashley comes across immediately as trustworthy and intelligent... she was a calming presence, very communicative and informative, and also very positive and caring!
4) Ms. Anita -- I did not note this angel's role, but she was one of the first people I met. She welcomed my wife and I when we were first brought to my room and came back to visit on my second day. Just a very friendly, warm, relaxed presence who seems to truly love her workplace and the patients. She made me feel so welcome and like everything was going to be ok, which is what we all want when we go to a hospital!
5) Rhemy - Daytime Nurse 1 day -- Absolutely a morning person, but not one of those morning people who make you feel bad if you aren't a morning person. Rhemy, instead, was motivating, positively energizing, and very on top of things, and/knew where to go for answers and always got them. So genuine, so caring, such a good listener. Rhemy and I had been chatting for a little while, and my breakfast happened to already be in the room. She insisted on taking my breakfast somewhere to reheat it for me because it might have gotten cold. Who does that, especially in a hospital? She made me feel good about being where I was and going through what I was going through!
Ryan - Nurse Tech 1 day -- Ryan was supposed to be off the day I had the pleasure of being her patient. She was called in because someone else needed to leave their shift shortly after arriving (it sounded like to my nosy self). I am guessing days off are a really big deal to folks like Ryan who go through what they go through day after day in the hospital, and then go home and are parents and caretakers there too... Ryan did not bat an eye about having to be back at work, instead she was very smiley and warm, and brought such a positive energy into the room whenever she came in which I truly appreciated. She wasn't trying to just get through the day, she was present and does what she does very well all while making me feel good about where I was!
Once again, thank you for allowing me this space to share with you some of my experience. The folks I have mentioned above are such a credit to the hospital. Yes, of course as a patient I want to be cared for by people who know medically what to know, and safety, and cleanliness, and all of that (which they did); the part where they go above and beyond though... demonstrating without trying, that they are good people, positive people, people who care, people who want you to get better, people who try to make you feel good... that's worth so much and you nailed it by hiring these people! All my best for a happy and healthy holiday season.
