Upon the removal, it was discovered that the patient's fingers were no longer viable, and the family was informed that revision amputations would be necessary for multiple fingers. This was a traumatic and unexpected discovery for both the family, and Alyssa, as their nurse.

She immediately escalated the situation to the appropriate providers, including the PA and surgeon, to ensure the family received the necessary answers and next steps. Alyssa was also a constant source of support for the family during this devastating time, allowing them the space and time to process the news at their own pace.
