Dianna was able to anticipate the needs of the surgical team due to her knowledge and expertise, promoting fast and effective treatment.
Dianna was in charge and responded to an emergency postpartum hemorrhage that rapidly escalated to a mass transfusion protocol. Dianna's calm demeanor during the emergency set the tone for exceptional, coordinated teamwork in the OR. A long-standing charge nurse with extensive experience in labor and delivery, Dianna was able to anticipate the needs of the surgical team due to her knowledge and expertise, promoting fast and effective treatment. Once the mass transfusion was called, she quickly delegated her responsibilities to a qualified co-worker to properly assist the primary nurse and doctors caring for the patient. She then stayed in the operating room with the care team to help safely identify and transfuse blood products through the Belmont. After stabilization in the OR, Dianna accompanied the patient to the ICU to ensure continuity of care, never leaving her side. Although we often deal with postpartum hemorrhages as a unit, the severity of this specific incident required a nurse of Dianna's caliber. Her communication skills, composure, and advanced knowledge of labor patients truly reflect what a DAISY Award Nominee should embody.
