Being in the hospital while sick and in pain left me feeling vulnerable, exhausted, and afraid. The first night that Ava took care of me, I was in severe pain and had reached my breaking point. I was crying, overwhelmed, and feeling hopeless. But Ava met me where I was, physically and emotionally, with love and kindness. She didn't get frustrated with me; instead, she cared for me with patience and grace during my hardest, darkest moments. That will always mean more to me than I can express in words.

She was everything a great nurse should be and went beyond that while caring for me. She came in every night with a smile. She comforted me when I was frustrated, sick, and afraid. She was someone I could count on, and that brought me so much peace. Having an immune deficiency, I have encountered many who struggle to have compassion for what they don't understand. Ava had immense compassion, and for that, I am forever grateful.
