I want to recognize Stacey Danielson's extraordinary compassion, dedication, and expertise as a nurse. In February, a tragic situation unfolded when Stacey discovered that a mother, in the final days of her pregnancy, was carrying a child that no longer had a heartbeat. Stacey, who had been notified to come in for a different reason, immediately took responsibility for this patient and became the unwavering advocate and caregiver for this family, demonstrating the true heart of nursing.

The following day, Stacey was off duty but remained on call, knowing that her work was not finished. When the mother unexpectedly hemorrhaged, Stacey sprang into action. Despite being off and not yet clocked in, she reported to the unit and stayed throughout the day, providing crucial care not only for the mother but also for the child. While the parents were unable to be present, Stacey cared for the baby as if it were her own, offering comfort and dignity during the most difficult of times. Stacey's exceptional care continued beyond that.

A couple of days later, she returned to work, fully aware that her support and care were still essential to the family’s healing journey. She went above and beyond, facilitating the "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep" program, ensuring the family had precious photographs to hold onto during their grief. Stacey continued to provide unparalleled care. She was there to offer comfort for the family as they returned to visit their son before the funeral home arrived to pick him up.

Stacey offered hugs, sympathy, and a safe space for the family to talk, cry, and process their emotions. She remained emotionally available, offering a steady source of support through one of the most intensely emotional and sacred times of their lives. Her presence, day after day, during such profound grief and loss, provided light and healing that is rare in this world.

Stacey's compassionate presence was also felt by the Chaplain, who worked alongside her during the viewing of the child for the grandparents. He stated that he would not have been able to offer such holistic care without Stacey’s partnership. Stacey Danielson exemplifies everything the DAISY Award represents—dedication, selflessness, and a deep commitment to patient care. She has gone far beyond her typical duties, providing not only physical care but emotional and spiritual support to a family facing the unimaginable.
