I am honored to nominate Imelda Anonuevo, an exceptional nurse, for the DAISY Award. Imelda embodies the highest ideals of care, delivering extraordinary service to patients, families, and coworkers on a daily basis. She is a huge asset to CVCU and CCU. Imelda has been an employee of UMC’s CVCU and CCU for the past 22 years. She possesses unique qualities as a candidate. She is a talented staff nurse and a wonderful relief charge nurse.
Imelda not only performs the responsibilities that come with her position, but also consistently goes above and beyond what is expected of her. She is the type of nurse who made her anxious, confused, legally blind patient feel human by taking her time calming him, holding him, and sitting in silence to provide a safe environment. She is the type of nurse who treats each patient and family member with dignity and respect. She is dependable, calm, and cheerful to work with. She is a role model and a team player. I know if I am working with her, I will have a teammate that I can rely on and someone who will not let me drown.
Aside from being an exceptional nurse, relief charge, teammate and person in general, Imelda is a great mentor. She has mentored multiple students and has precepted numerous staff nurses throughout her 22-year career. She provides guidance, knowledge, encouragement and great advice to students and new staff nurses, resulting in great quality nurses.
She does everything in her power to make her patients and family members feel at home in our unit. She is a compassionate communicator and a great patient advocate. She continuously stands up for her patients’ interests and ensures that they receive the highest possible level of care. Imelda is thorough with her patient education and is known to eliminate patients’ fears and anxieties about their current situations. Her positivity and confidence radiate onto her coworkers and patients the moment she steps foot onto our unit.
As a coworker who continuously observes the way Imelda interacts with patients, families, coworkers, and other interdepartmental units, I see her as the most fit candidate to receive this exceptional award as she truly exemplifies the meaning of an employee that goes above and beyond.
