I truly don’t think that if I hadn’t had Morgan as my nurse throughout those 12 hours, my delivery would have gone as smoothly as it did.
I was admitted to Labor and Delivery at Jersey Shore University Medical Center to give birth to my beautiful daughter. There were so many amazing people on my team during my stay, but there was one person who stands out to me, and it is my nurse, Morgan. Morgan was my primary nurse who started at 7am that day and was with me until 7pm. From the minute I met Morgan, we instantly clicked. I had received an epidural around 530 am that morning before Morgan had arrived, and I was very nervous about receiving the epidural as you can not walk because you have no sensation in your legs. I was worried that my labor would not progress the way it should, from not being able to walk around, and that was something I wanted to mention to whoever was going to be my nurse for that day. Before I could even tell Morgan about my concerns, she had let me know that throughout her 12-hour shift, she’d be in every 30 minutes to put me into a new position with the peanut ball in order to get my daughter in the optimal position for birth and to further progress my labor. Morgan stuck to her word, she was in my room every 30 minutes on the dot to move me around and get me as comfortable as she could in order to get my daughter out. Morgan had put me in all different positions throughout her day, and she knew I was up to try anything she recommended in order to give me the smoothest and quickest delivery. I truly don’t think that if I hadn’t had Morgan as my nurse throughout those 12 hours, my delivery would have gone as smoothly as it did.
I unfortunately did not deliver my daughter on Morgan’s shift. However, I told her to please come visit me the next morning and meet my daughter, since she was back the next day for another 12-hour shift. Sure enough, at around 730am, I heard a knock on my postpartum room door, and it was Morgan coming to meet my daughter and check on me to make sure I was feeling okay and everything had gone smoothly. I even had some concerns about my room that I was put in postpartum, and Morgan had moved me to a much nicer and bigger room so my husband and I could be comfortable for the remainder of our stay. Morgan had come in my room throughout the day after I delivered my daughter just to check up on me and make sure everything was going well (even though she was not my primary nurse for that day.) She even met most of my family, and they all loved her as well. Morgan was truly the epitome of what a labor and delivery nurse should be. She was kind, compassionate, friendly, communicative, and the person you’d want beside you during such an exciting yet vulnerable time in your life. I hope that Morgan will be my nurse for the rest of my children. I would consider myself very very blessed!
