Kelly has consistently demonstrated advocacy and compassion while at clinical.
Kelly is an excellent student academically and seeks to learn to understand. She consistently asked questions to better understand information and shares this with her peers with enthusiasm, to foster their learning.

Kelly was a team lead of 4 patients in the clinical setting; she demonstrated critical thinking and fairness in her patient assignments to her team. Her peers said she was approachable and understanding in her feedback to them. In talking to her about how she handled providing feedback to her peers, she said, “The idea of ‘correcting’ my peers flustered me a little bit, but as I thought about it, if it were me, I would want to know so I wouldn’t miss anything in the future.”

Kelly has consistently demonstrated advocacy and compassion while at clinical. One day, she went into a patient's room who had asked if he could have something to eat; he had been NPO for a period of time. Kelly looked further in his chart and questioned the primary nurse as to why he was NPO and found out there was no reason for his NPO status (per staff, the NPO automatically populates). The patient was thrilled that Kelly found out he could finally have something to eat.

Another instance of patient advocacy, a patient with heavy alcohol use, had been admitted. Kelly questioned why CIWAs had not been ordered or seizure precautions not implemented (the primary nursing did follow up on these questions raised by Kelly).

Another example was when a patient was newly placed on hospice care. Although Kelly was not assigned to this client, she provided comfort to family members, found tissues, and offered words of support.

Kelly even purchased hats for a patient who had lost her hair, and the patient’s hats were lost in transport.

Lastly, Kelly also had a client who wanted to go outside. After going through the proper hospital channels, Kelly was able to take him outside to enjoy the sunshine. This is the exact patient care, compassion, advocacy, and leadership qualities I have observed in my clinical this semester with Kelly.
