Ms. Rosner elected to go down to the pharmacy to pick up his medications personally, since the patient was unable to ambulate due to operative precautions after surgery.
On a busy Friday afternoon, we had a patient who had financial difficulties in paying for outpatient medications after surgery, who stayed in the hospital for several days after a routine surgery. On the day of discharge, unbeknownst to our orthopedic surgery team, he did not have payment available for him to pick up the appropriate outpatient medication for his postoperative care and multimodal pain regimen.
Ms. Rosner elected to go down to the pharmacy to pick up his medications personally, since the patient was unable to ambulate due to operative precautions after surgery. Not only did Ms. Rosner elect to pick up his medications, but she also paid for the patient's medications with her own money, because the patient was financially unable to, so he had the proper medication for his postoperative treatment. This was done without our team's knowledge until the patient was about to be discharged home. Ms. Rosner went above and beyond to provide care for her patient. She provided great care for her patients and was extremely empathetic. She stood out as a nurse who was willing to go beyond her normal duty of care to help her patients, and as an orthopedic surgery resident, we want to recognize her.
