The essence of nursing excellence is a profound and rewarding experience. My sister, her husband, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have encountered Edralin, RN, in the Ambulatory Surgical Unit at Kaiser San Francisco. When Edralin greeted us, I sensed this would be a “DAISY Award” nursing experience. With forty-four years as a practicing acute care complex medicine nurse and a four-time DAISY Award recipient, recognizing “nurse excellence” transforms into a spiritual connection and a true honor. Edralin's nurturing and compassionate spirit stood out remarkably. Her calm demeanor, soothing energy during the admission process, comprehensive patient education, patience as my sister took one pill at a time, attention to comfort, and family involvement exemplified her dedication. She even honored my request to communicate with the anesthesia team, enabling me to join the preop holding area, where she kindly introduced us to Nurse(1). As we arrived, Edralin assisted my sister off the stretcher and walked her to the restroom, embodying the classic nurse response, “I have time to help you.” As a fellow nurse, I found her commitment to infection control and safety incredibly inspiring. She efficiently washed her hands, identified her as a high “Fall” Risk, and labeled and dated her IV site, all with kindness and respect. My sister expressed joy in having Edralin as her nurse, and I wholeheartedly agreed. Edralin is an extraordinary and dedicated role model for our nursing profession.
