• The ECT team has navigated many changes this past year, including a significant restructuring of the program flow and staffing. The nursing team owned their unique role within the program by collaborating with anesthesia and psychiatry teams, administration, and patients through many trial and errors; debriefings and meetings to create a new flow and care environment that is safe, more efficient, works functionally for all roles involved, and provides space to continue to deliver excellent quality of care for our patients. The ECT team said goodbye to several beloved staff members and are getting to know several excellent new ones. Through all this change, the ECT team kept quality, safe, loving patient care at the heart of their efforts.

•    Amazing team. Over the last several months, I was tasked with treating patients twice as fast with half the staff, and they conquered the challenge with amazing grace and professionalism. Their ability to work as a team goes above and beyond. They succeed because they all have the same goal of providing world-class care to our patients.

•    The ECT team is diligent and thorough in working with patients and their families: They answer all questions patiently and sensitively. Patients who receive treatment are very vulnerable. The ECT team is compassionate, warm and caring. Patients and their loved ones are treated like family by the entire team.

•    We have the best program in Denver! The nurses go above and beyond to take care of their patients. They are compassionate, kind, and patient, which is exactly what the patients and families deserve.

• Last year, in early April, the ECT team was tasked with A LEAN project which would improve their efficiencies and overall cost per case. This was a tough challenge for many reasons. They are a tight-knit team, they love what they do, and care deeply about their patients. Making such drastic changes was not going to be easy. This likely meant doing several patients at one time, in one general area with less privacy and staff. After visits to other departments and tons of work with our CNO and Quality department. The unit has successfully restructured and cut its costs in half. They rebuilt their team and allowed each to be involved in most of the changes. They have overcome many challenges and still come to work with a positive attitude and provide the same exceptional care they did previously. This is a unique department offering an even more unique medical treatment. This unit consists of nurses from all areas of the hospital. Some worked in PACU, some ICU, others Radiology, pediatrics, the medical units and inpatient psychiatric units. They are a very close team and work exceptionally well together. Their compassion and skills show each day as the patients show up and they get to work. It’s obvious they love what they do. The patients refer to them as angels and are so appreciative of the care and empathy. Having a Behavioral Health diagnosis is not easy, the patients appreciate their professionalism, empathy and patience during their treatment. The entire department is like a family, patients' psychiatrists and staff. I am proud to nominate this resilient team for the DAISY Team Award!
