Shreya encouraged some forms of therapy so that he had the chance to go outside the ward, with some assistance, either in the form of a wheelchair or someone accompanying him.
I nominate Shreya Pawar as someone who has taken an extra interest in my son's welfare after many weeks of being on Ray Ward. His medical condition of sarcoidosis affects the immune system, and in addition, he has severe cataracts in both eyes, making him blind. Because he had no stimulus for over 6 weeks, Shreya encouraged some forms of therapy so that he had the chance to go outside the ward, with some assistance, either in the form of a wheelchair or someone accompanying him. He was given an MP3 player for music and headphones to listen to the radio. In addition to these practical things it is her attitude of gentle kindness and encouragement that I value. I commend her for the DAISY Award. Such gifts of empathy in nursing staff are what help families to cope, and I personally feel that her sympathy extended to me as a mother, watching and supporting but relying on the expertise of medical people as a vital part of recovery.
