She always listened when I shared that my grandmother was sensitive to loud noises and hard of hearing, and spoke calmly and gently.
She goes above and beyond from the moment Jalyssia enters my grandmother's room. It is difficult to even narrow down the instances to use in this nomination. She took great care of my grandmother and I truly felt more relaxed when her shift started because I knew that she was not only in great hands, but in caring hands. Jalyssia would explain each time what was happening and why. When doctors would give orders she would explain what the doctors meant when giving orders. Spoke about everything with such confidence and precision that I never questioned anything. Always showed compassion and spoke with a kind voice. She always listened when I shared that my grandmother was sensitive to loud noises and hard of hearing, and spoke calmly and gently.

She listened each time I expressed any concern and addressed them immediately. When I said I thought my grandma was cold, warm blankets showed up only a moment later. Jalyssia valued my grandmother’s comfort- switching mouthwashes when we noticed she didn’t like the taste of the original, constantly readjusting pillows and lines when my grandmother was uncomfortable, carefully getting each bit of dry skin off before moisturizing her lips, etc. Those may seem like small things, but they were huge to my family. When my grandmother crashed right at shift change, Jalyssia responded quickly and efficiently, which no doubt contributed to the good outcome. She stayed late to make sure I understood what had happened and to comfort me. While we’ve had many good nurses during our time here, this nurse’s compassion, kindness, professionalism, and skill are far apart from the rest. Our experience has been nothing but exceptional, and Jalyssia truly deserves to be recognized.
