He was appropriately inquisitive, and I found myself trusting that he would correctly communicate my situation for the record and to my doctor. That was a rarely observed feeling of trust that I was in good hands before I even saw the doctor.
When Tristan introduced himself in the Kaiser waiting room, I was taken with his combination of kind eyes, friendly demeanor, and interesting tattoos. He was chatty as we walked down the hall, not overly so, but after the weigh in ("well darn, I gained! not much though.') and trip through the maze of doors to the exam room. I found that I was more relaxed than when I arrived. I noted this because I had worrisome developments to discuss with my doctor. Tristan calmly and efficiently took notes as we progressed through the Q&A of my stats and reasons for today's visit. The interview finished, he politely excused himself to retrieve the flu and covid vaccines he said he could save time by administering while the doctor finished with another patient. He reappeared shortly. I detest shots, but after the first shot I marveled that it didn't hurt at all. He told me of an experience while in nursing school, pantomiming while talking. He watched a fellow nurse trainee as she very slowly administered her very first shot, he had observed the trepidation and agony the patient was experiencing. Right then, he adopted his own policy of talking calmly while quickly giving the shot. When he finished the anecdote to my surprise he'd administered the other vaccination. I had barely noticed. Even now, the next day, neither shoulder was sore- an amazing feat. When the conference with my doctor ended, he appeared again and escorted me back through the maze to the waiting room.
I commended Tristan's professionalism, efficiency, and above all, empathy. Through his efforts what could have been nerve wracking experience was calm and organized. Most other nurses I 've encountered are mechanical (probably from the constant repetitive demands of the job). Tristan's dedication to the comfort of his patients puts him miles ahead. He is a credit to his profession. I enthusiastically recommend him for the DAISY Award.
