Socrates's ability to connect with B on an emotional level, while ensuring his physical comfort, was truly remarkable.
I'd like to nominate Socrates, a recovery nurse at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, for the extraordinary care he provided to a 19-year-old patient, B. B had surgery with Dr. P. Post-surgery, he was in significant pain and discomfort, which made it challenging for him and his family, to cope with the situation. Socrates immediately stood out with his compassionate presence and understanding demeanor. He thoroughly understood B’s frustrations and discomfort, and he made sure to keep B calm and at ease as best as he could. Socrates's ability to connect with B on an emotional level, while ensuring his physical comfort, was truly remarkable. The difference Socrates made in B’s recovery process cannot be overstated. His natural understanding of B's specific needs and his exceptional bedside manner turned what could have been a nightmarish experience into a manageable and comforting one. Socrates’s special demeanor brought his family immense relief, knowing their son was in such capable and caring hands. In fact, B’s family was so moved by Socrates's care that they wrote a letter of appreciation to the hospital CEO, highlighting Socrates's exceptional service and the noteworthy impact he had on B’s recovery as noted in this nomination. Socrates is deserving of the DAISY Award because he always goes above and beyond in providing compassionate, patient-centered care. His actions not only helped B recover more comfortably but also provided his entire family with much-needed peace of mind during a difficult time.
