Esther’s kindness, dedication, and personal attention not only improved M’s physical condition but also uplifted the spirits of his entire family.
Esther Danil, a Senior Clinical Nurse Coordinator in Pediatric Oncology Day Care, is known for her unwavering dedication to her patients. Her compassionate care has left all her patients and their families deeply satisfied, with not a single complaint since she took on her role. Even in the most difficult times, such as when a patient passes away, Esther is there, providing emotional support to grieving families. During her temporary six-month assignment in the call center, her absence was deeply felt—many patients and families were so upset that they cried, prompting her early return after just three months.

One remarkable example of her dedication involves a patient named M, who had a relapsed and refractory Wilms tumor and was DNR, no longer receiving treatment at the Pediatric Oncology Day Care.

One day, M’s father came alone to the PODC, expressing grave concerns. He shared that for over six months, he was only on pain medication, and he was worried because no blood investigations had been done. As the father of four children—M being his only son and eldest—he was overwhelmed. He mentioned that M had not bathed for a week, was not listening to his mother, and the entire family, especially the parents, were feeling depressed.

Esther reassured the father and promised to visit M personally, knowing that her presence would make a difference. She immediately contacted the Home Healthcare (HHC) coordinator and arranged for a blood test to be done the next day. The test results revealed an electrolyte imbalance, and M was started on oral electrolytes.

On Saturday, Esther, accompanied by a colleague from the outpatient department, surprised M at his home. M was overjoyed to see her. Esther took the time to talk with him, explaining the importance of hygiene and proper positioning to prevent pressure injuries. She even helped him bathe and made his bed.

The next day, Esther followed up by contacting the social worker to request a medical bed, as the one M was using was too large and unsuitable for his condition. The social worker assessed the situation, and arrangements were made to provide a medical bed soon. Esther stayed for dinner with the family, and they were incredibly grateful for her visit and the positive impact it had on M's health and well-being.

Esther’s kindness, dedication, and personal attention not only improved M’s physical condition but also uplifted the spirits of his entire family. Her actions exemplify the extraordinary level of care she provides to her patients.
