Nurse Tobin was very warm and welcoming, made me feel safe and settled, and told me everything I needed to know, which meant I had no questions to ask about anything. During answering questions about when I ate last, and I said dinner time, nurse Tobin asked if I was a Leeds lass, and meant dinner time, midday, and teatime is your later meal. I said yes, absolutely, I’m a Leeds lass, and yes, dinner time is midday or what some call “lunch”. Most people I’ve come to realise think dinner time is the later meal, it’s not! But I thought it was mindful of her to double-check because most people assume. Also I said about my niece moving to Stockport and when I came out of surgery, woke up and was getting ready she remembered about my niece in Stockport and that I’d be able to have dinner or lunch if I’m in Stockport, remembering things like that with how many people they deal with means a lot, it means they actually listen and actually care, that is priceless, you’re not a number, you are a person still, that makes you feel comfortable and safe. Most importantly, she was just a lovely, kind, gentle lady. Exactly what you expected a nurse to be like, and she is teaching the student that was with her in the same manner, from just being herself. Andrea Tobin embodies the spirit of the NHS in Leeds. Nurse Tobin is the kind of nurse I want anyone from Leeds or visiting Leeds to get if they need the hospital. Doctors and surgeons need to be matter-of-fact, it's nurses like Andrea Tobin that keep it human, that’s if they’re outstanding like Nurse Andrea Tobin! Her attitude, kindness, caring, thoroughness, and manner should be the benchmark for every Nurse.

Well, where to start really? Andrea is just amazing! She is fantastic to work with and has an absolutely brilliant team ethic. She consistently goes above and beyond and is always so thorough with everything that she does. I find myself writing this nomination, not because she has done anything out of the norm, but because being fabulous is her norm.

I am always happy to see her name on the board when I walk onto the ward because I know that whatever happens, she is always there to support. I honestly don't think I have worked a shift where I haven't heard her share her knowledge with either me or a colleague. She is a great role model, a great communicator, and just a wonderful colleague. Thank you, Andrea!!
