I had a patient who came in with a broken hip. He fell at home when going to take a shower. His wife was currently on step down and she was not doing well, and fighting cancer. He was not worried about his hip surgery; all the patient wanted was to see his wife, especially before his surgery. Spencer went out of his way to help me make that happen.

Spencer phoned the stepdown nurse, and they allowed us to take my patient to see his wife. Spencer helped me take my patient by bed, and he moved things around in the wife’s room so they could hold hands, hug, and talk. This was not an easy task, getting two beds in the room at an angle where they could have direct contact. My patient’s whole demeanor changed, and he was happy and smiling even with a hip fracture.
