The way she spoke to her team and the way they clearly worked together in a stressful situation was wonderful.
My nanny was brought into ED by ambulance after a fall at home. ED was particularly busy that evening, I’m sure, very much the norm in the current climate and pressures on Healthcare. I was highly impressed at the repose mattresses on trolleys. Despite how busy she was, Adele went above and beyond in the care both my nanny and others received; the care and compassion she showed, despite being under immense pressure, were terrific. She took the time to check not only that nanny was okay but also that I was. She recognised I had been sitting there all night with a 96-year-old who was clearly quite unwell and had sustained some quite nasty facial hematomas. The pressure of the beds was evident. It was apparent to me what was happening, but she didn’t let it show or reflect on her patient care. I’m sure the other nurses were doing an equally sterling job, but in the central majors area we were in, Adele stuck out. The way she spoke to her team and the way they clearly worked together in a stressful situation was wonderful. The attention to detail and patient comfort were to be celebrated. It appeared to be a reasonably challenging night shift with some very challenging service users.
It's disheartening that we've reached a point where patients must share ED cubicles, and all central spaces and corridors in the ED are being utilized. I take my hat off to you and your team that night, Adele. You were calm, collected, compassionate, and empathetic; that friendly face and approach also helped me stay relaxed, ensuring my nanny was comfortable. Keep smiling, lovely, and please be assured that you are making a difference and that many nurses can learn from you.
