It had been years since a baby was delivered in Baystate Nobles ED, and a patient came in complaining of abdominal pain. It was quickly identified that the patient was in active labor and delivered within minutes of arrival; the mom had not known she was even pregnant. Kelsey stepped up in huge ways. She not only assisted in the delivery but identified that the baby was in distress. Kelsey kept a cool head and designated another nurse to continue caring for the mother. At the same time, she took primary care of the infant until the NICU team arrived to transport both mother and baby to WETU. It was later discovered that the baby had been in status and was seizing continually. The parents notified the ED that the baby boy spent some time in the NICU but was able to go home strong and healthy. The parents praise Kelsey, stating that, thanks to her skill and extraordinary care, both mom and baby are doing great!
