A confused patient who thought she was being held hostage and believed her family brought her to the hospital to abandon her was acting aggressively with the staff. Wendy spent many hours with the patient, talking to her calmly and putting her at ease. I walked past the room several times and witnessed their interaction with one another. Initially, the patient was sitting on the side of the bed and yelling at Wendy. At the end of the shift, Wendy was sitting next to the patient, laughing about recipes. Wendy took the time to recognize the emotional distress this patient was in. She did not take the hostile attitude personally but cared about putting the patient at ease. I have witnessed her acts of selflessness multiple times. Wendy is a role model to all nurses that work with her. She truly embodies the spirit of patient-centered care. Wendy's ability to connect with the patients on a personal level, diffuse tense situations, and bring laughter into the room is commendable. Her approach to nursing, priotizing patients emotional well being, and not taking hostile attitudes personally is a testament to her professionalism and compassion. Wendy's selflessness and dedication serve as an inspiration to her colleagues.
