She truly cares for her patients and does her best to coordinate with all the resources at her disposal to provide them with the best care.
Taylor had a stroke patient one night who, although high-risk, needed to be on a heparin drip. The patient had been on a heparin drip, and Q2 neuro checks for two days and had been stable. Late into the night, Taylor noticed the patient was acting a little differently and became concerned. With the next check, she knew there was something wrong. She called the provider, and they initially didn't want to scan the patient, thinking she was just tired. Taylor advocated for her patient and secured a CT scan. Turns out, the patient was having an extensive hemorrhagic conversion that led to more doctors and the ICU getting involved. Taylor was very patient with the patient and explained things throughout the process, working efficiently with all team members to transport the patient to the ICU as quickly as possible. The patient was terrified, and Taylor stayed in the room with her to keep her calm the whole time. All of the doctors involved told the charge nurse how great of a catch it was and commended Taylor's efficiency and great critical thinking. Weeks later, the same patient came up from NSR to thank the nurses who had taken care of her and specifically mentioned and hugged Taylor. Both the patient and her family were emotional as they thanked Taylor for all she had done for her. This is not the first instance I have seen Taylor advocate for her patients to receive the best care and ensure they are well taken care of. She truly cares for her patients and does her best to coordinate with all the resources at her disposal to provide them with the best care. When a doctor asked her to fill out and fax some forms that were usually not a night shift responsibility, she spent over two hours completing them and sending them to the correct destination so the patient's care would not be delayed. She is empathetic to her patients and her coworkers and is growing into a fantastic nurse. We are so lucky to have her on our unit! Taylor's actions not only benefit her patients and their experience in the hospital, but they also build up and encourage her coworkers to do the same. She is excellent at teamwork and communication with everyone involved. I know that when Taylor is on shift, her patients will be well taken care of.
