The team has consistently rallied together, coming in early, staying over late, taking heavy patient loads, maintaining a great sense of humor, bending, and stretching to accommodate the many needs.
I want to thank the entire BBC ED staff for their excellence in maintaining a strong work team family and taking care of each other, while at the same time providing great care to a very sick patient population.
This winter has been especially challenging for our community in terms of the number of individuals coming to our doors for health care, and particularly impacted by influenza. There have been weeks on end where significant numbers of beds are held overnight with patients waiting to go upstairs, rendering the ED process complicated on multiple levels. Bottom line, the staff are called upon to provide the normal inpatient treatments, meds, therapies, etc., that a patient would receive upon admission, while at the same time providing excellent emergency care. This has been done with limited open ED beds, often with nearly half the capacity tied up with holds. This situation is exhausting and can take its toll. But the team has consistently rallied together, coming in early, staying over late, taking heavy patient loads, maintaining a great sense of humor, bending, and stretching to accommodate the many needs. I am truly grateful to work with this team. The synergy and support, the non-stop, the excellence in care regardless of how tough it gets.
