Managing a group of passionate and strong-willed nurses is tough, but she does it with grace and unconditional love.
Kelly was recognized for her ability to communicate clearly with her team, respond to their needs, and keep them connected to the organization’s goals. Colleagues describe her as steady, supportive, and someone who genuinely listens. Being a nurse leader isn’t easy. There’s pressure from every direction, but Kelly leads by example. She keeps her team grounded, advocates for what they need, and always puts patients and staff first.

Having a great manager at any point in your career will set the standard for all leaders in the future. Some set the bar low but there will always be one that sets the bar high, making them a tough act to follow. This Nurse Leader is just that. A true leader leads their team with confidence and advocates for them to ensure their voices are heard in a real way. A true leader knows when their staff members need extra support and positive feedback to keep them moving forward. Managing a group of passionate and strong-willed nurses is tough, but she does it with grace and unconditional love. Nursing can be heavy, but a great leader makes that burden so much easier to bear. I am blessed to call this leader a mentor and a friend. It is with great honor that I nominate Kelly Barnes for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
