I am honored to nominate Nurse Nelly Nyaranga for the DAISY Award in recognition of her extraordinary compassion and dedication during one of the most difficult moments of my life. My brother was admitted to the IMCU due to respiratory failure after battling cancer. His condition worsened, and our family faced the heartbreaking decision to allow him to pass peacefully. In that moment of immense sorrow, Nurse Nelly provided more than just medical care. She provided comfort, kindness, and unwavering support that we will never forget. What stood out most was Nelly's steadfast presence. She did not leave the room, ensuring my brother was not suffering and that he was surrounded by care and dignity in his final moments. Her quiet reassurance, her attentiveness, and her compassion made an indescribable difference. In a time when we felt helpless, she gave us peace, knowing that my brother was not suffering. Nelly embodies what it means to be a truly exceptional nurse not just in her clinical skills, but in her humanity. Her presence was a source of comfort to both my brother and our family, and for that, we will always be grateful. I wholeheartedly believe that Nurse Nelly deserves to be recognized for the kindness and dedication she brings to her patients and their families.
