My husband was transferred to Christ Hospital, on a vent, after spending 4 days in another hospital. I truly believe that if he had stayed another day at the other hospital, he would not have survived. After the traumatic experience at the other hospital, he was transferred to the MICU at Christ. This is when I met Kayla L. She was like sunshine on a stormy day. She reassured me that my husband would be taken care of. She listened to my horror story regarding the lack of care for my husband at the other hospital and what we had experienced. She showed empathy and compassion. She gave me the time I needed to unwind at that moment and breathe a sigh of relief. Even when my husband was no longer under her care, she would stop in the room to see how he was doing. At one point, it looked like he had taken a turn for the worse, she came into the room and gave me a hug. During this hospital experience, whenever my husband did not receive the same care and attention Kayla gave, she had demonstrated to me that there are nurses who will go above and beyond their nursing role, nurses that did care about patients and their Families.
