She took the time to ask questions, listen to me, and didn’t treat me like I was overreacting. She sacrificed her own time to take care of someone who was both scared of and angry at her, expecting nothing in return.
P- Dr. Sooby will always try to protect her students and looks for opportunities to do so. When there was some highly publicized violence against a nurse, she talked about how to protect ourselves. When she was a guest speaker in my first semester, she tried to hammer in that our unit’s understaffing is not our responsibility, and our patients will suffer for our lack of boundaries.
E- Yes. She’s going to get stuff done, but she does care for her students. She shows it by action, not empty words.
T- I would trust her with my life.
A- Dr. Sooby is very tactful but has a way of getting things done. It’s never offensive. You just realize that you told her what she wants to know, or you’re somehow doing exactly what she wants, with no idea how you got there. She’s very nice about it, but very efficient. There’s no conflict. You’re just doing what she wants, whether or not you realize it.
L- Dr. Sooby is always willing to stand up for her students, whether they want it or not. She will follow through on her obligations, even in the face of pushback. She reported something that happened to me at an unrelated clinical. Policy or legal, not sure, but it was required. She didn’t get a choice, though. I was not very happy about it. She listened to me and explained why she didn’t get a vote, and did what needed to be done. It ended up being the right thing to do in the end. I’m not sure how this semester would have ended for me if she had minded her own business like I asked her to.
S- Dr. Sooby will always put aside time to check in on her students. I was upset over something that had happened at clinical (unrelated to her class). She took the time to ask questions, listen to me, and didn’t treat me like I was overreacting. I found out later that she’d quietly looked into it more behind the scenes. She sacrificed her own time to take care of someone who was both scared of and angry at her, expecting nothing in return.
