She exemplifies the very best of the nursing profession – technical excellence paired with profound compassion.
Reed showed us extraordinary care and compassion she has provided to my 23 year old son and our family during the most challenging time of our lives. My son was admitted to the ICU following cardiac arrest with severe anoxic brain injury and multi-organ failure. During this devastating period, Reed has demonstrated exceptional nursing care that extends beyond clinical expertise.
What distinguishes Reed is her profound Commitment to treating my son with dignity and humanity, even while he remains in a coma. She consistently speaks to him directly during procedures and care, addressing him by name and explaining what she is doing. This simple, yet profound gesture, reinforces his personhood and gives me comfort knowing he is seen as more than just a patient. Her clinical attention to detail is impeccable.
Reed communicates every medication she is administering, ensuring I understand the purpose and potential side effects. She consistently maintains my son’s dignity in keeping him clean and comfortable, adjusting his position regularly, and assuring his appearance remains as normal as possible despite the numerous medical devices supporting him.
What has touched me most deeply is that Reed has extended her care to our entire family. She regularly checks on my emotional well-being, asking if I need anything and creating a space for my questions and concerns. I have been particularly moved watching Reed education student nurses about the life-saving devices supporting my son. Her professionalism and passion during the teaching moments demonstrated not only her exceptional knowledge but also her commitment to developing compassionate, skilled nurses for the future.
In the midst of the most difficult period of my life, Reed has been an anchor of support, expertise, and genuine human connection. She exemplifies the very best of the nursing profession – technical excellence paired with profound compassion. The impact of her care extends far beyond my son’s bedside and will stay in our family’s hearts long after this hospitalization. Reed truly embodies the highest standards of Nursing Excellence and human compassion.
