I am honored to nominate the Memorial Hermann Northeast Education/Magnet Team for the DAISY Team Award. This dedicated team has made significant strides in enhancing the educational experiences of our staff and promoting professional development across the organization. Their efforts align strongly with Memorial Hermann’s mission, vision, and values, ultimately driving improvements in patient care and outcomes.
The Department of Professional Excellence actively contributes to this mission by developing comprehensive educational programs that empower our healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills essential for delivering high-quality patient care. An example of this is their focus on building self-efficacy through high-fidelity simulation, a series of drills, and a thoughtfully designed competency skills fair for hospital staff. Their commitment to lifelong learning reflects the vision of being a global leader in healthcare. They promote a culture of respect and collaboration, ensuring that all team members feel valued and supported on their professional journeys. This collaborative spirit not only enhances staff morale but also translates into better patient interactions and outcomes. The team has worked closely with chaplaincy services, case management, wound care, pharmacy, respiratory, and many interdisciplinary departments throughout the hospital.
The Education/Magnet Team has implemented innovative strategies to address performance measures across the organization. They have introduced evidence-based training modules, the implementation of a Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) program, patient safety didactics for New Resident Practitioners (NRPs), leadership development, and specialized clinical skills training. These programs have resulted in measurable improvements in staff competencies and confidence levels. One significant outcome has been the increase in Vizient scores for our nurse residents. The campus recently ranked #3 and #4 in the Program Evaluation Survey for their Spring 2024 nurse residents in the following domains:
- Program Evaluation Survey - Program View Detail
- Program Evaluation Survey - Coordinator View Detail
- Program Evaluation Survey - Evidence-Based Practice Project
- Program Evaluation Survey - Preceptor
Tangible outcomes from the Education/Magnet Team's initiatives include improved metrics in areas such as staff retention rates and compliance with training requirements. There has been a noticeable retention rate of 95% and above among the nurse residents from the last three cohorts, attributable to the enhanced educational support and career development opportunities provided by the team. Intangible outcomes include a strengthened culture of excellence and continuous improvement within our healthcare setting. The team has also nurtured mentorship relationships that have fostered personal and professional growth.
The Memorial Hermann Northeast Department of Professional Excellence team exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY Award through their unwavering commitment to excellence in education and professional development. By embodying the mission, vision, and values of Memorial Hermann, they have made a lasting impact on both staff and patient care. I wholeheartedly support this nomination and recommend the team for recognition for their remarkable contributions to our organization and the communities we serve.
