Bethany reached out to MFM and social work and even contacted resources in the patient's community to secure transportation and food resources for the patient.
I would like to recognize Bethany D'amico for her compassion and patient advocacy. A high-risk pregnant patient arrived at the Infusion Clinic for a scheduled iron infusion. Through the use of an interpreter, Bethany identified that the patient had missed several necessary appointments with MFM. Upon further assessment, the patient had missed appointments due to a lack of transportation and insufficient funds to cover transportation costs. She additionally identified a lack of food security. Bethany reached out to MFM and social work and even contacted resources in the patient's community to secure transportation and food resources for the patient. She arranged an immediate follow-up appointment with MFM the next day to ensure the safety of the patient and her baby. In addition, she sent the patient home with sandwiches and snacks that would have otherwise been discarded at the end of the day. Bethany went above and beyond in her advocacy for this patient, ensuring both compassionate treatment and potentially an improved outcome for both her and her baby. It is for these reasons that I would like to nominate her for the DAISY Award.
