No matter the circumstance, this RN enters every patient room, placing herself in their position, allowing for her caring hands to do the work she promised to do, to help heal the sick. Her compassionate heart allows her to connect with her patients and families.
The best of the best sometimes go unnoticed because they never waver from the oath pledged the day their career began. Attention is not always shown to those who have paved their nursing path grounded on the values of compassion, excellence, human dignity, justice, and the sacredness of life and service. It’s easy to be overlooked when the work you do never falters from excellence. This nomination shows the gratitude I and so many others have for this RN, but more importantly, to honor an RN who does everything in her power to maintain and elevate the standard of the nursing profession. How? It is simple, this individual embodies integrity, which allows her to push herself as well as her team through adversity with a professional grace. No matter the circumstance, this RN enters every patient room, placing herself in their position, allowing for her caring hands to do the work she promised to do, to help heal the sick. Her compassionate heart allows her to connect with her patients and families. She always seems to have the right words to put patients and families at ease, and when there are no words, I’ve witnessed tears shed and warm embraces given to comfort those during the hardest days of their lives. She surpasses the definition of being an advocate. Even the most difficult patients, the patients that choose to leave against the care team’s advice, where one may give up, her heart doesn’t stop caring. She makes sure phone calls are made, and equipment will be available to ensure the patient’s safety when leaving our facility. She is a leader and a role model to the nurses on the unit. She will speak up to ensure quality and safety is adhered to, proving the pride she has in the work completed not just by her, but every care team member. This RN is respected and valued by the multidisciplinary team she works with; she impresses with her own knowledge and expertise to assist in the care provided on the unit. She continues to build upon her already solid foundation by asking why and adapting and changing her own practice based on evidence. Undoubtedly, she is a true DAISY Nurse. It is time for the best of the best to shine and there is no better way to show appreciation for her integrity in exercising our profession honorably than to be the recipient of this prestigious nursing award at SEY.
