She brings her compassion, patience, professionalism, and care to the bedside, sharing it not only with the patient but also with the care partner.
Our 2nd visit to The Greenville Memorial Hospital for outpatient surgery! My husband was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer. He and I, as his sole care-partner, very quickly hopped on the cancer train. Everything is new, foreign, and sometimes surreal, and we take it one moment at a time! This is exactly how his nurse, Miss Abby McGregor, was during our time in the outpatient recovery room. Some assume outpatient is simple, quick, and off you go. Abby does not give her patients any less just because they are with her only for a few hours at most. She took it 1 moment at a time with us...staying alert to J's vitals and progress, constantly monitoring and listening to him and his needs, all while answering my relentless questions, giving lessons on catheter care AND removal. All this follows the hospital protocol in communications, clinical details, and suiting up safely for chemo plug removal. Abby noticed unusual discomfort and communicated that to a staff member to receive approval to administer relief! She brings her compassion, patience, professionalism, and care to the bedside, sharing it not only with the patient but also with the care partner. We watched her work effectively and efficiently with her nurse team/supervisor and never once left us feeling stranded or confused. Abby continuously cared for and guided us through the recovery process, assuring me that I had all that I needed with clear instructions on how to care for J at home...and she did it all with a smile and ease! She's a natural caregiver, one who should never be underestimated, and someone who will make a difference in the lives of many. She has skill and devotion as a team player. I said a prayer on the drive home...that if we have to return for surgery again, I wish our recovery to be with Miss Abby M!
