He greets each patient by name, asking about their grandkids, their favorite TV shows, even their pets. It isn’t just small talk—he remembers the details, the little things that make people feel seen.
I am honored to nominate John Schneider for the DAISY Award for his extraordinary dedication, kindness, and the unwavering joy he brings to the infusion center every single day. Although I have been receiving regular infusions for most of my life, but I am new to the St. Charles Bend Cancer Center. I have encountered countless phlebotomists and infusion RNs and right away I noticed one infusion RN at the Bend Cancer Center who stood out. John Schneider. John walks in like a burst of sunshine. He moves through the infusion center like a warm breeze, lifting the spirits of everyone he encounters. He greets each patient by name, asking about their grandkids, their favorite TV shows, even their pets. It isn’t just small talk—he remembers the details, the little things that make people feel seen. Even people who seem lost in exhaustion or discomfort seem to respond to John’s lighthearted joking. And it isn’t about being funny, it is that he brings light into a place that can be so easily overshadowed by fear and fatigue. John doesn’t just administer treatment; he administers hope. In a place where illness can feel isolating, he reminds patients that they aren’t alone. That laughter still has a place, even here. That kindness can be just as powerful as any medication. At the end of people’s sessions, you can tell that some of them leave with a different outlook. The fear hasn’t vanished, but it has softened. After interacting with John, they don’t feel like just a patient in a chair. And John is at the heart of it all, making sure that even in the hardest moments, there is still room for joy. John Schneider exemplifies the very best of nursing. His compassion, his humor, and his ability to bring light into the lives of his patients make him an extraordinary caregiver. He doesn’t just treat illness—he treats the soul. For these reasons and so many more, I wholeheartedly nominate John for the DAISY Award, as he embodies the true spirit of nursing excellence.
