My son was admitted to the 6th Dean unit recently. I met Fairin, who was not my son’s nurse but the nurse of the patient in the next bed. She was very pleasant. She told me she needed to get acquainted with my son because she was sure to have him as a patient the next day, and she did.

Fairin epitomizes professionalism. She explained everything to me and to my son, even though he is non-verbal. She treated my son with tender loving care. She stated that she treats all her patients as she would want to be treated and as if they were her family members. I felt the care and compassion with which she cared for my son. I felt very comforted when I had to leave for a while during the day because I knew my son would be well cared for. She also told me, “Mom, when you are not here, don’t worry, he has another Mom here.” I truly felt that.

Fairin was accessible. Even though she had a very busy day, it seemed like I could always reach her. She was knowledgeable about my son’s condition, and whenever she didn’t know the answer, she found out from the health care personnel who did.

She took time to hear my story about my son’s condition and showed empathy.

She made sure my son was clean and comfortable. She changed his trach dressing, which was one of many other needs that my son had.

I am a registered nurse and received the DAISY Award some years ago. I am pleased to nominate Fairin for the DAISY Award and truly hope that she wins this nomination. Thank you.

P.S.: My son also had a DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) condition that led him to be non-verbal, tracheostomized, with a feeding tube, and unable to care for himself. As his mother, my heart is filled with joy when he has to be cared for by anyone beside immediate family, more specifically other medical personnel like Fairin…She is truly a DAISY Nurse.
