Lianna is a critical thinker who is not afraid to challenge the status quo if it leads to improved outcomes for the patients.
This nomination is in recognition of Lianna’s outstanding leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to patient care and staff support at Resnick NeuroPH.

Lianna goes above and beyond the requirements of her job description daily. She helps facilitate admissions, discharges, and everything in between. She proactively works to solve gaps in care before they become a larger problem, often before anyone realizes there is even an issue. She advocates for the patients not because she must, but because she truly cares for their well-being.

On countless occasions, I have witnessed Lianna coaching apprehensive first-year residents through the process of administering an IV medication. She does so with patience and grace, never making the resident feel uncomfortable or ignorant. Recently, we had a patient who was in severe alcohol withdrawal. Prior to being transferred to the ICU in Ronald Reagan an order was written for phenobarbital IV to be given by the MD. This is not a common medication used at RNPH and certainly not in the IV form. Lianna was at the bedside with the MD coordinating procurement of the medication and administration. She stayed with the MD and patient long after her official day was done to ensure he safely received the dose and transferred to the ICU.

Lianna is a critical thinker who is not afraid to challenge the status quo if it leads to improved outcomes for the patients. She and I worked closely to attempt to change RNPH policy, which would allow her to administer lorazepam IV for patients who are actively seizing. She saw this as an opportunity to use her expertise to provide prompt and safe care for patients in situations that require swift action. She took the initiative to discuss this change with all key stakeholders, worked to change the policy verbiage and brought it to the proper committees for approval.

My sentiments about Lianna are shared by other members of the RNPH team. When I expressed interest in nominating her for the DAISY Award, many staff members volunteered to share their experiences to be included in the nomination.

A provider said:
Lianna has been a tremendous asset to RNPH. Prior to her position being created, there were many times when I had medical questions about my patients that did not warrant an internal medicine consult but that I did not feel comfortable managing on my own. I would end up consulting a busy service because the care was out of my scope, but I also knew it was not an appropriate use of resources. Since being here, she has become an indispensable resource for me and my patients.

I am so grateful for her and all that she has done to support RNPH in the last few years. My care has been elevated from my interactions with Lianna, and my patients have benefited tremendously because of her.

Lianna demonstrated exceptional leadership and a profound understanding of the importance of clear and transparent communication during times of crisis. In her role as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, LA consistently goes above and beyond to support staff and ensure patient safety. I vividly recall a challenging day when LA noticed the demands of my workload and offered her assistance, easing my burden and ensuring a smooth conclusion to my shift. Lianna's dedication extends beyond administrative tasks; she actively engages with patients, providing support with activities such as ambulation, restroom assistance, and feedings when necessary. Her genuine passion for aiding others, coupled with her remarkable work ethic, exemplifies the qualities of an exceptional nurse.

An administrative nurse from bed placement said:
I have witnessed LA's unwavering dedication and expertise in providing support and care. She is proactive in mitigating risks, as demonstrated by her swift action to address ligature risks and ensure patient safety.

An exceptional moment unfolded when Lianna joined forces with the medical team to thoroughly examine safer alternatives for a patient whose wound was encased in an ace bandage, a pivotal step in guaranteeing the patient's safe admission to RNPH. Displaying remarkable initiative and dedication, Lianna personally administered the necessary wound care, ensuring meticulous attention and compassionate assistance for the patient's well-being. This collaborative effort underscored her commitment to comprehensive patient care and exemplified her proactive approach to addressing patient safety and medical challenges head-on.
