Brooke’s actions throughout the day were nothing short of extraordinary.
I would like to nominate Brooke for the DAISY Award for her exceptional dedication, skill, and heroism, which were all evident in one extraordinary day last month. To start the day, Brooke performed three consecutive ultrasound-guided IV insertions for my patients. Each one was a challenging case, but she handled them with the precision and finesse of a seasoned professional. Using outdated, temperamental equipment didn’t slow her down either—she worked with it like a pro, achieving flawless results. Brooke’s mastery of this specialized skill left everyone in awe, turning what could have been a difficult situation into a seamless process.
Later in the day, Brooke’s bravery and selflessness were put to the test when I was dealing with a patient with C. diff. Stuck in full PPE, overwhelmed by the situation, I was struggling to manage everything on my own. Without a second thought, Brooke jumped in to help. She gathered all the supplies I needed, scanned medications, and assisted in placing a Foley catheter. But what really showcased her commitment was when she helped me clean up the patient—midway through the process, feces were splashed in our direction, and we had to jump out of the way to avoid the shower. Despite the extremely unpleasant and hazardous situation, Brooke stayed right beside me, helping with the task, showing an incredible level of support and teamwork. Brooke’s willingness to dive into one of the messiest and most difficult parts of the job speaks volumes about her dedication. She turned an unbearable moment into a manageable one, and I couldn’t have done it without her.
On top of everything, Brooke once again came to the rescue when I was swamped with patients and in desperate need of a break. As my blood sugar dropped and hunger took over, Brooke arrived at the exact time I had requested to cover my lunch. I was practically running on empty, and she stepped in, ensuring my patients were taken care of while I recharged. Brooke’s actions throughout the day were nothing short of extraordinary.
